What are cookies?
Cookies are small files installed on the hard drive or browser of a computer, tablet, smartphone, or equivalent device with Internet browsing capabilities. They help, among other things, to personalize the services of the website owner, facilitate navigation and usability of the site, obtain aggregated information from visitors, enable the playback and display of multimedia content on the website, allow interaction elements between the user and the website, enable security tools, etc.

What types of cookies exist?
According to the entity managing them:
- First-party cookies: Sent to the user’s terminal from a device or domain managed by the publisher and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: Sent to the user’s terminal from a device or domain not managed by the publisher but by another entity that processes the data obtained through cookies.
According to the duration they remain active on the terminal equipment:
- Session cookies: Designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a web page. They are typically used to store information that only needs to be kept for the duration of the service requested by the user (e.g., a list of purchased products) and disappear at the end of the session.
- Persistent cookies: Data remains stored on the terminal and can be accessed and processed for a defined period by the cookie controller, ranging from a few minutes to several years.
According to the purpose for which the data obtained through the cookies is processed:
- Technical cookies: Enable the user to navigate through a web page, platform, or application and use the different options or services available, including those used by the publisher to manage and operate the web page and enable its functions and services. This includes, for example, controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted access parts, remembering the items in an order, processing a purchase order, managing payment, controlling fraud related to the security of the service, registering or participating in an event, counting visits for billing software licenses that operate the service, using security elements during navigation, storing content for video or sound dissemination, enabling dynamic content (e.g., text or image loading animations), or sharing content through social networks. Also included in this category are cookies that manage the most efficient way possible the advertising spaces that the publisher has included in a web page, application, or platform based on criteria such as edited content without collecting user information for other purposes like personalizing that advertising content.
- Preference or personalization cookies: Allow remembering information so that the user accesses the service with specific characteristics that differentiate their experience from other users, such as language, the number of results displayed when performing a search, the appearance or content of the service depending on the type of browser used, or the region from which the service is accessed, etc.
- Analysis or measurement cookies: Allow the controller to monitor and analyze the behavior of users on the websites they are linked to, including quantifying the impact of advertisements. The information collected by this type of cookies is used to measure the activity of websites, applications, or platforms to make improvements based on the analysis of usage data.
- Advertising cookies: Allow the most efficient management of advertising spaces that the publisher may have included in a web page, application, or platform from which the requested service is provided based on criteria such as edited content or the frequency of ad display.
- Behavioral advertising cookies: Allow the most efficient management of advertising spaces that the publisher may have included in a web page, application, or platform from which the requested service is provided. These cookies store information about users’ behavior obtained through continuous observation of their browsing habits, allowing for the development of a specific profile to display advertising based on it.
